THE HOLY TRINITY

“The trinity:Try to understand it and you’ll lose your mind. Try to deny it and you’ll lose your soul”.

The Feast of the Most Holy Trinity is not a normal feast, we don't celebrate an event like at Christmas or at Easter, we do not celebrate the feast of one of the many thousands saints of our liturgical calendar.

The word Trinity is not a biblical word, it is an abstract truth, a mystery. Neither Jesus nor Paul ever spoke about it. Men can solve problems, but we have to learn to live with the mystery of God. Don’t even attempt to understand it..

There are many comparisons that preachers of all times have used to explain the inexplicable..
The Trinity is like water, we say, “The same thing can be solid, liquid, or gas”.
The Father is the one who loves, the Son is the beloved. The Spirit is love.
Creator. Redeemer. Sanctifier.

Today, in every Catholic or Christian church, preachers will try hard to be eloquent, but let me assure you, they will not be successful, the faithful will leave the church without hitting the target.

How to preach about God’s innermost being, his essence, when no one has ever seen Him?
How to accept the mathematics of God, 1+1+1=1?

I like what Jesus says at the beginning of our text, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth”...

One thing is certain, to speak of the Trinity is to speak of God. Not about what he is behind closed doors, but about his manifestations, his adventures throughout the world of men.

I am sure this has happened to you several times. You are greeted by someone on the street, whose name you cannot remember and whose face you do not recognize. When the stranger leaves, you begin to remember and little by little the stranger becomes an old friend with a name and a face and a family.
God is that elusive stranger who takes different forms in your daily encounters and that is the reason why you find it difficult to recognize him. One day, He is the Father who loves you like a son. Another day, He is the Son who approaches you as a good friend. Other times He is the Holy Spirit who comforts you and gives you courage.

God is a mystery and much more. God is love and a community of love. We know God in his manifestations, ad extra.

A Serbian proverb says, “If I see your eyes I know you a little, if I hear your voice I know you a little more, if I see your works, then I really know you. Remember, when you love, you know more about God than when you try to understand him. Your heart is big enough to embrace the whole world, your intelligence is so microscopic that you do not understand yourself.

The doctrine of the Trinity declares that God is alive and well and living in us and in our world.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are acting to provide and protect us, redeem and set us right, and shape us into the image of God. We do not look back on what was and be stuck into the past. We can celebrate what is and boldly step into the future. Amen
